Live Sensors with the Desktop Companion
A web page cannot read your graphics card’s temperature, power draw or fan speed. If you want those numbers next to a stress test, you can run a small helper script on your own computer. This page pairs with it and shows live readings, and any test you run while it is paired adds a sensors table to the results.

About this tool
The companion is one Python file that reads sensors your computer already exposes and serves them to this page over your own machine (127.0.0.1). It only reads. It does not write files, does not run commands you send, and does not talk to the internet. The readings never reach this website’s server.
How to read the results
GPU temperature turns amber from 83 degrees Celsius and red from 90. Many cards run safely in the 70s and low 80s under load; sustained readings near 90 suggest dust, weak airflow or a fan curve that is too gentle.
Set it up
- Install Python 3.8 or newer if you do not have it. No extra packages are needed.
- Get
smg-companion.py. It ships in the plugin’scompanion/folder. A copy link is not available on this page; the site owner can host the file for download. - Open a terminal in the folder with the script and run
python3 smg-companion.py --allow-origin https://your-site-address, using this site’s address. - The script prints a pairing code. Enter the code in the tool above and press Connect.
NVIDIA cards need the driver’s nvidia-smi tool, which is installed with the driver. AMD cards are read through rocm-smi or, on Linux, the kernel’s sysfs files. CPU temperature works on Linux; Windows and macOS usually do not expose it without extra tools.
How the pairing keeps it safe
The companion listens only on your own computer, answers only the website addresses you list, and refuses requests that do not carry the pairing code. Close the script when you are done and nothing is reachable. Browsers that block https pages from reaching local addresses, such as Safari, cannot use it.
Frequently asked questions
Why do I need a separate program?
Browsers deliberately cannot read hardware sensors. A small local program can, and this page can then read it with your permission.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The page talks to 127.0.0.1 on your own computer. Readings stay in your browser.
Which systems work?
NVIDIA GPUs on Windows and Linux with nvidia-smi; AMD on Linux; CPU temperature on Linux. Missing values are shown as not available.
Do I need the companion to use the rest of the site?
No. Everything else works without it. The companion only adds live sensor readings such as temperature and clocks.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The companion talks to this page over your own computer and does not send readings to the site.
Why is the companion not enabled on this page?
The site owner has to turn on the Desktop companion in the plugin settings first.
